Forstenried – A haven of peace in a historic setting

The Munich district of Forstenried was first mentioned in a document in 1166 under the name “Uorstersriet,” which means “clearing in the forest.” The historic town center has been largely preserved to this day and is dominated by the late-Gothic Holy Cross Church from the 15th century. Its origins are closely linked to the numerous Catholic pilgrims who once visited the town. The historic ensemble is complemented by several manor houses, some of which date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, Forstenried presents itself as a lively and sought-after district in the south of Munich. Characterized by modern single-family and multi-family homes, it offers families in particular an attractive living environment with a high quality of life. In addition, the excellent connection to public transportation - especially via the U3 subway line - ensures quick and convenient access to downtown Munich. A special highlight is the adjacent Forstenrieder Park, one of the city’s largest recreational areas. With its cycling, hiking, and horseback riding trails, it attracts nature lovers and sports enthusiasts year-round. The nearby wildlife park, home to foxes, badgers, fallow deer, and red deer, is particularly popular with families. Forstenried also has plenty to offer culturally: Classical concerts are held regularly at Fürstenried Palace - both in the idyllic palace gardens and in the historic palace hall.
